Drone Weather Hourly: Pitot

iPhone app by Kamal Nasir

Pitot is a drone weather app for iPhone that checks each hour's wind, gusts, K index and twilight against the limits you set for your own aircraft.

Pitot the iPhone app is a drone weather forecast, not a pitot tube, the instrument aircraft use to measure airspeed, and it takes no airspeed readings.

What it does

Questions people ask

What wind speed is too windy to fly a drone?

It depends on the aircraft: each model has its own wind resistance rating, and gusts matter as much as the average wind. Set limits for your own drone and compare the hourly forecast against them, which is how Pitot marks each hour.

What is the K index and why does it matter for drones?

The planetary K index, or Kp, rates geomagnetic activity on a scale from 0 to 9. High values can disturb a drone's compass and satellite positioning, so pilots check it before flying. Pitot shows it from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.

Does a drone weather app tell me where I can fly?

Pitot does not. It covers weather only, draws no airspace map, no-fly zone or airport ring, and links to your aviation authority's own tool by name, which is where to check airspace.
