What is the max wind speed resistance of each DJI drone?
Updated October 20, 2026 by madebykamal
DJI rates most of its current consumer drones at a maximum wind speed resistance of 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph), the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 4 Pro at 12 m/s (26.8 mph), and the Neo at 8 m/s (17.9 mph). Each is the most wind the aircraft is built to withstand, not a wind to plan around: DJI's Mini 4 Pro manual says not to fly above that model's rating, and gusts and wind at height usually run stronger than the ground forecast.
Max wind speed resistance of each current DJI drone
These are the consumer drones DJI's global camera drones page offered on 20 October 2026, with DJI's own figures and Levels from its comparison, camera drones and Neo spec pages. Conversions are rounded to one decimal.
- DJI Mavic 4 Pro: 12 m/s (26.8 mph, 43.2 km/h, 23.3 knots)

- DJI Mini 5 Pro: 12 m/s (26.8 mph, 43.2 km/h, 23.3 knots)
- DJI Mini 4 Pro: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)
- DJI Mini 3: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots), Level 5
- DJI Mini 2 SE: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots), Level 5
- DJI Lito X1: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)
- DJI Lito 1: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)
- DJI Flip: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)
- DJI Avata 360: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)
- DJI Avata 2: 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots)

- DJI Neo: 8 m/s (17.9 mph, 28.8 km/h, 15.6 knots), Level 4
The Air 3 and Mini 3 Pro
DJI's camera drones page lists the Air 3 and Mini 3 Pro as no longer available, but its comparison page keeps their figures: the Air 3 at 12 m/s (26.8 mph, 43.2 km/h, 23.3 knots) and the Mini 3 Pro at 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h, 20.8 knots).

What Level 4 and Level 5 mean
DJI's pages do not explain the Level, but its figures match the Beaufort scale in the National Weather Service's table:
- Force 4, 13 to 18 mph (11 to 16 knots): small branches move. The Neo's 8 m/s (17.9 mph), DJI's Level 4, falls here.
- Force 5, 19 to 24 mph (17 to 21 knots): small trees in leaf begin to sway. A 10.7 m/s rating (23.9 mph), DJI's Level 5, is the top of this band.
- Force 6, 25 to 31 mph (22 to 27 knots): large branches in motion. The 12 m/s models (26.8 mph) sit here.
A rating is a ceiling, not a safe flying wind
The rating is the edge of what the aircraft is built for, and DJI treats it that way: the Mini 4 Pro manual's flight environment rules open by saying not to fly in severe weather, including wind speeds exceeding 10.7 m/s, its own rating. Flying up to it leaves no reserve for a gust, a headwind home or a draining battery.
The manual adds that reduced battery capacity in cold weather lowers wind speed resistance, so on a cold day the drone has less in hand.
Gusts and wind at height are stronger than the average
The National Weather Service defines a gust as a rapid fluctuation of 10 knots or more between peaks and lulls, and the gust speed as the maximum instantaneous wind speed. A forecast of 12 mph gusting 26 mph is past a 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph) rating at the peaks, so compare the rating with the gust.
The FAA's Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge explains that friction with the surface slows the wind close to the ground, and that buildings and terrain break its flow into gusts that change rapidly in speed and direction. The air a drone climbs into is usually moving faster than the air at launch.
What DJI's aircraft and app do in strong wind
The Mini 4 Pro manual describes how the aircraft handles strong wind:
- In Advanced RTH (return to home) it adjusts its speed automatically for wind and obstacles.
- It may not be able to return home when the wind speed is too high.
- Wind differs with altitude, so DJI says to watch the battery and warning prompts in DJI Fly when returning from a very different height.
- In strong wind it lifts its sideways speed and attitude limits to improve wind resistance, so the gimbal may vibrate.
- In ATTI mode, entered when the vision systems are unavailable and satellite positioning or the compass is unreliable, wind can make it drift and it cannot hover or brake on its own; DJI says to land as soon as possible.
Checking the forecast against your drone's rating
Pitot, a drone weather app for iPhone, lets you set wind and gust limits for each aircraft you own, so a Neo and a Mavic 4 Pro can carry different limits. It reads every hour of the forecast against your limits and marks it solid to fly, outlined for caution or crossed where something is over your limit. It reports surface wind only, so the margin for wind at height is yours to add.
Questions people ask
What wind speed is too high to fly a drone?
There is no single figure for every drone, but each has a ceiling: its maker's rating, which for current DJI models runs from 8 m/s (17.9 mph) to 12 m/s (26.8 mph). DJI's Mini 4 Pro manual says not to fly in wind above that model's 10.7 m/s at all. Set your own limit below the rating, check it against the forecast gust rather than the average, and allow for stronger wind at flying height.
What is the DJI Mini 4 Pro's max wind speed in mph?
DJI rates the Mini 4 Pro at 10.7 m/s, which is 23.9 mph, 38.5 km/h or 20.8 knots. Its manual gives no lower safe figure, only an instruction not to fly in wind above that same 10.7 m/s, so plan well below it.
Which DJI drone has the highest wind resistance?
Among current consumer models, the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 4 Pro share DJI's top rating of 12 m/s (26.8 mph). Most others are rated 10.7 m/s (23.9 mph), and the Neo 8 m/s (17.9 mph).
